Hi Afwas,

I didn't install the Imagefit plugin, I just opened your link in IE6/IE7. Don't know if you have the current version installed, but for now images are still double-sized in IE6.

Also the p4wn Chess plugin is working well on my IE6, I'm using MultipleIEs

[off topic]Both are a hurdle for humans to jump through to prove that they're a human, so they both lose [/off topic]

Captchas should be put against a wall and shot

1) they're broken already
2) they inconvenience humans
3) they really don't stop spammers

EdB's bobo box on the other hand isn't quite as annoying, and at least it remembers that I once got the answer right so helpfully gives me a clue by filling in the box next time

Thanks for the feedback.

I have the Lightbox fixed in SVN (http://sourceforge.net/projects/evocms-plugins/) however I haven't got a clue what is in the most recent released version. My head runs over caused by the many plugins I work on simultanously:

PHP:

This code however is prone to revision. Blueyed wrote a script that caches all javaScript. It needs the script to be in a file rather than in the <head> section, so this is going to be moved and incidentally that will solve the validation problems.

I did fix the javaScript for the Imagefit plugin and that cured this particular problem in IE7 (the only version I could get hold on). That fix is in Imagefit plugin version 0.9.1, so 0.9 is bad and 0.9.1 is good. Maybe it is not good enough for IE6. Please check what version for the plugin you have.

Also the p4wn Chess plugin doesn't work in IE (6 & 7). I haven't found the problem there. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

You should comment out the script in jQuery Lightbox plugin or pages fail the validation test

ive renamed the widget to _colls_list_member.widget.php and uploaded to the inc/widgets/widgets/ dir and the class file to its relevant directory, but when i click install i cannot see the widget to install?

I am using the vastitude skin and below the header image there's a bar or menu with a link to Home and login, etc. I was trying to put the date/time there.

Yes I understood you when you said "it'll never happen" to mean that it would provide an giant security hole.

I'm slowly finding my way. I've even started to figure out Opera's built-in dev tools. Showing DOM objects, css, js, you name it.

I'm not sure how to dig into php since it's server-side.

I guess I can't remember seeing carnivore's, uh, I mean google's captchas. I use google for searching once in a while. I'll have to have a look.

The captcha thing has turned into a little arms race of sorts. A new captcha scheme comes out and then it's decoded, then they change the scheme and it's decoded and so on and so forth. Turing test is much more difficult to automate, but of course if there's a will there's a way. Plus Turing was cool.

Posting "protected" will give you what you want. People will not be able to access content in a blog they are not a member of.

Ive already done this in order to make everything private etc. Just could do with a guiding hand to get this to work.

I think you can set posting status to default to "protected" and use the permissions settings to disable bloggers from posting "published". This would mean that only bloggers who are members of a blog will see the posts.

Not sure what you mean by "submenu nav" but date and time associated with each post is very easy. Simply grab a skin that has it, and many do, and open it up to see which file has it. You will be looking for something like "$Item->date()" or maybe ->time() and inside the () bit you might find stuff like ( 'h - i - s' ) which would be the date stamp code for how you want to actually display it. 7/23/08 or 7/23/2008 or 07/23/2008 or 23-7-08 or July 23rd 2008 are all the same thing, and you can control that with the stuff inside the () bit - assuming you're talking about displaying a date for each post that is!

Oh and the reason it won't come through a widget is security related. The only PHP is in files. Some widgets are designed to allow html, some of your back office settings can include html, and you can use html when you post - but not php. Server-side scripting is strictly for inside your actual files is the thing.

Hi,
thanks for replying.
im using this software as a private blog, so every user has to login and therefore got some sort of user rights.
ive been looking at the wiki but not comming up with much. Even if i use the sample widget in the wiki i cant get it to show up in the widget list.

What you seek is technically possible BUT has not been done to the best of my knowledge. So like "public blog list" has everything that is public, "same owners list" has stuff you own, but you seek a "is member of" bloglist. Cool idea.

hmmm... just thinking a bit, but that would mean a visitor who is not a member of any blog would have no bloglist to play with, or would you use both widgets. Would it be cool if the "all public blogs" bloglist had a way to highlight the fact that this is a blog you can post in? Like maybe with a style sheet thingie to bold it or something?

Anyway yeah it's possible but yeah it hasn't been done yet. Sorry

do a backup of your files and database. You need both to move to a new server. BTW cpanel gives me a "backup" utility AND an option to 'export' a database via phpmyadmin. I use both, but the 'backup' utility will also serve as a restore utility. Once you learn the tricks of it it is very easy, but you should use all available methods to backup your database.

Oh and empty your hitlog table first. That is data that will bloat your database backup needlessly.

Anyway once you have your backups make sure to keep them safe just in case...

Restore EXACTLY what you backed up, meaning restore your obsolete version, then upgrade. Do not try to "upgrade while moving". Alternatively you might want to upgrade before backing up from your current server, but it is probably easier in the long run to backup your current stuff, restore it on the new server, then upgrade your blog engine.

Oh and welcome to the forums! Don't hesitate to ask for clarification of any bits, but please do try to learn a bit on your own. It's cool when we do this stuff together is the thing.
