My b2evolution Version: Not Entered

I upgraded to B2E 1.10.2 a few weeks ago. I just now discovered that old posts created in B2E Version 0.9.0.10 are not displaying correctly. Specifically – dashes, apostrophes, and characters are replaced with a question mark. As in:

Here?s a rundown of what I like ? and don?t like ? about this camera.

Where it should say:

Here’s a rundown of what I like - and don’t like - about this camera.

Example can be found here: http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/index.php?m=200612

Or just go to www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/ and pick any archive entry dated December 2006 or earlier.

I thought it might be the .css file – but replacing the stylesheet.css from v 1.10.2 with the one I actually used back then does not solve this issue. Doing this does implement a Serif Font and a few other changes that I had in place then.

Posts created in B2E v 9.2 are fine.

The current stylesheet.css validated without problem. The old on had a two problems with font color and size attibutes, and 3 warnings. FWIW - the skin is just Guadaloupe with different picture.

Here’s a link to the current style sheet:
http://www.markcassino.com/b2evolution/skins/guadeloupe/stylesheet.css

And the one I used in v 0.9.0.10 and 0.9.2:

Is there anything I can do other than manually fixing the problem characters?

Thanks –

I have no idea what has caused this problem - but discovered that all I need to do to fix it is to open the post for editing (log in, hit the edit icon) and then just save it. Once that is done, the question marks disappear and the posts look fine.

I have no solution for you but I can give you a hint to what is going on. Apparently The old 0.9 blog has configured the database to another charset as the newer blogs. There was apparently no conversion when the old entries were imported in the new blog.

I hope this get you going.

Good luck

Thanks, Afwas - I think your explanation is right on the mark.

I just finished opening and re-saving all of the affected posts - not a major problem with a laptop while watching CSI... :)

The only bump in the road was with one post that B2E refused to save - kept giving me a "invalid URL" error. I thought it was a problem with the post's permalink - but finally figured out that I had linked to a site in the original post that was no longer valid. Once I editied out that link - it saved fine.

Everything is fixed up now - thanks for the info.
