I have started using pagebreak and multi pages recently.
For what reason?
In my blogs I try to keep balance of posts relating to certain topics.
Sometimes I llke to publish more details or additional, granular aspects of a certain topic I have posted, but do not want to publish each in a separate post. In the Index or start-page readers could get the impression that this topic is prioritized or more focused and is what the website is running for.
This way I can link to the second page, show a content I want to refer to without having it listed in the postidx.
A research to SEO relevance of multi page posts have not brought clear results, yet. So I will wait and have a look at google search results handling the second page and how this will affect the serp of the post (positive or negative)
And a second argument for pagebreak could be e.g. to quit a users action on the first page with a certain thanks, following a conversion funnel.

Regarding @saunders desire to keep
Is there a way to have multiple pages, which become separate items, but are linked in such a way that they can be written as a single page, with the pagebreak, but each time the pagebreak is used it is saved as a separate item with a suffix and the suffix denotes that the item should not be shown in in the postidx.
Though this may be an extra pain to develop woukld it solve all the complicated issues?

What happens to older posts pages ~ will they be allocated a title with a numerical suffix?
They will display as single page and [pagebreak]
will be displayed until you edit otherwise.

You can make "unlisted" standalone pages which you link from your "page 1" in the same area where you would see "go to page 2".

It is not good for SEO because comments are duplicated on each page.

I use to use page break all the time. but now that it is incorporated into the blog Im using, that makes nice easy to read pages, I literally have no use for it anymore.I don't like doing long Pages anyways because my users have the attention span of a dead rat.

To use single pages instead of multi page by pagebreak is a smart idea. Also you argument towards SEO is convincing. Accordingly I have splited up the multi page posts.
If you drop pagebreak in v 8x it will be ok for me.

Arch!, some of my posts have nearly 19 pages. Oh well! Fun ahead :)

I forgot to mention a use case for multi page posts.
There are some posts, written in German with an English translation on a second page. The cover image remains and the title of the post, also the comments. That is exactly what I have intended.

Note: support for multilingual posts : https://b2evolution.net/man/coll-locale-settings but it requires to specifically use separate posts for separate languages.

@fplanque I suppose that feature is available from 7.0.2+ on.
I am still using 6.11.5 that runs pretty fine. Because there have been always some problems during the last upgrades and I had a lot to do with them, I will not upgrade to version 7+ for the foreseeable future - unless there are very convincing reasons, e.g. security.

Hi. I was considering using b2evolution to build a community group. After reading this thread, I am wondering if that platform will still have multiple blog features in future updates, or when those might be.

@saxtonmd77 b2evolution serves multiple blog features, yet. Besides the fact that I myself run several blogs through one installation, users could also, if I permit it, start their own blogs on this platform. They can also link their own domains to it. No problem at all. Works for me without any problems.
But you should consider, that b2evolution will no longer by served by developers. There is currently no one who is considering developing b2evolution further. Unfortunately @fplanque has withdrawn.
b2evlution is really a great multi blog cms. So you have to take this in consideration before you will build up your sites and pages.
Do you mean the pagebreak option?
Change is what makes us who we are. Going for simplification seems a nice upgrade. I wonder if this is related to the link anchor issue :) ??
