I like the skin I've got but thanks for the suggestion.
Indeed fluid is what I want, and I was told the skins can be converted. I guesss it's going to be trial and error.
Anyone care to point me toward the start point?

again, varies depending your preference .. next time i hope u'd care to know which you are using, or an url to your blog.. you know, not all of us are foreseers..
anyways, i.e. if your skin has a one content column and one sidebar [google] fluid two column layout [/google] etc.
positioningiseverything.com is very useful and there are shedloads of others out there

/skins/your_skin/style.css ... look for a declaration that has "wrapper" as part of it's name and delete the "width:##px|ex" ... ish

Resolution is a variable thing based on user's monitor and choice.. and we can not know which you are using unless you tell us.. though it wouldnt make sense already.even if you 'filled' your screen, you couldnt fill somebody else's.. to keep it short, use a 'fluid' skin
