where do i change the file that controls the english for different headings and coment boxes etc..?

there is no english file.
the english 'words' are all over the code.

does it mean that I can not modify phrases ("Read more!" to "Please click here"; "Leave a comment:" to "Share your thoughts" etc.) in one place? Do I have to look in all php files to find where I could change "Read more!" to something different?
