Is there any way to just turn the forum off? Better yet uninstall it? I don't need it and don't particularly want it taking up space.

I just installed b2evolution about 3 hours ago and so far I've done good to figure out how to edit the primary post on the home page. As a new comer to b2evolution but not to forums, cms, and blogging software in general I have to tell you - this is a rather steep learning curve.

Never mind. I'm going to uninstall it.

Hi If you installed b2evo in the default mode with collections then you may well have installed a forum. If you go to the site dashboard you can delete any of the collections without having to uninstall everything.

Keep with it and things will come to you. I'm fairly new myself and I will say, installed with demo content, just spend time surfing the site and reading the demo content. It will help a lot.

One thing I found tricky was the stacked admin menus but once you get the grasp, it's handy.

B2evo has "collections" which you can sort of think of a subsites in wordpress multisite. There's different collection types. Home, Blog, Forum, Manual(documentation/book etc) and Tracker(bug tracker and/or workflow). They can have different skins and in fact, each skin is made for a collection type. (Get used to bootstrap) You can create or delete these 'collections' at will.

I've played with most every cms and I think I'm stuck on this one from now on because I always found myself wanting to integrate something into the cms. There's only a handfull of "all-in-one" systems and this is the best imho and damn sure the fastest.

The documentation for b2evo isn't great but they're working on it. They're also working on version 7 which will allow more customization in the way of content arrangement and styling.

A little note about b7: by default it will install without the demo content and when you first log in it will ask you to check what you want:

  • Homepage
  • Blog A
  • Blog B
  • Photos
  • Forums
  • Manual
  • Mailing list
  • etc

So new users will be able to start mostly with what they need and not a ton of things they don't need.

@soonovi
I don't need it and don't particularly want it taking up space.

The 'Fourm', apart from the content which can be deleted, is just a skin. All default skins in v6 are installed automatically (for V7 see previous post by @fplanque).

If you want to save a 'little' space then check out the skins folder and delete any skins you have no intention of using.

Thank you so much for this feedback. Comments about the learning curve are incredibly useful to aeveryone else who comes after we take action on it. I went ahead and modified the way this is done in b2evo v7. That "primary post" will now be a "free text" widget instead and a simple click on it will allow to edit it. Thanks again!

Furthermore I do understand that many indirections like this are hard to grasp and we are working on removing some more.

As written by @amoun above, just go to the list of collections in the backoffice and click the "trashcan" icon for the forum collection and it will be gone in a sweep.

Thanks for reminding us that they help (because they're a PITA to maintain ;)
