My b2evolution Version: Not Entered

Haven't upgraded b2 before, and must confess I've been deliberately putting it off.. But comment spam is starting to be a problem again so I'm hoping that an upgrade might help..

The upgrade articles I've read so far have been manual installations, but mine was installed via Fantastico. Will a Fantastico-based upgrade work properly? Are things likely to break? Are there howtos for a fantastico upgrade?

Any advice appreciated!
