In version 1.10.x you can only preview the skins in backoffice -> Blog settings -> Skins. To change the skin, go to backoffice -> Blog settings -> Display -> Default skin.

In the upcoming 2.x versions you do select the skin in the skins section.

I am using Fantastico on Hostgator also and I installed purple_beauty via the File Manager but I cannt select it from the admin area of the blog...you can use purple_beauty with 1.9.3 correct? Any ideas why it doesn't show in my Admin area?

you must download the skin from this site (have a look at [url=http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?t=12810&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=]this post[/url]). Next you extract the zip file and upload the contents to your host in the ../blogs/skins/ folder of your blog.

Now you can find the skin in backoffice -> Blog settings -> <choose blog> -> Display -> Default skin.
