My b2evolution Version:

Hello I recently used a self extracting program with my hosting company
to install B2 Evolution, I updated to the latest version and have made about four posts to it, which all went fine.

When I went to update it recently this is the error message I get when I try to preview a post before submitting it, I also get the message when
I try and post it.

Basically the whole screen goes grey with this message

Forbidden
You do not have permission to access this document.

and while I have looked at frequent errors I do not see anything that covers this, I contacted the hosting company however they suggest it is a
b2evolution code error.

Try : admin > blog settings > [blog] > urls ... tick everything that says "use id" and press save

As an aside, if your host is godaddy there's a different fix that can be found on the FAQ's section of the forums.

There is no reference to what you have suggested in this area other than
Use param: post ID

I would ask that if you do not know what is causing the issues to not respond because asnwers that indicate "try this and try that" indicate a lack of knowledge and guessing game's are a waste of time...as perhaps is this platform.

no offense but i believe you are being way too aggressive for a new user, and getting too smarty giving advices, for a person who

used a self extracting program

to perform a 2 step 30 sec. install

I mean what were you expecting ? You would get an exact solution without providing any details other than "I clicked a button and i got this error"?

No problem, I'll just take my 6,000+ posts and 5 years of experience with every version of evo from 0.9.x to current day and go sit quietly in the corner.

Sorry for wasting your time huh? :|

You want to know something I've been online over 10 years and also used this thing when it first came out....and you know what....in over the five year's it's been continually developed probably seven....online it's still got bugs. I mean seriously when I decided to give it a second try I knew it would be pushing luck, but I actually thought that after this amount of time, they'd have a program that worked...obviously I was wrong.
It's not aggressive it's stating facts.

and actually I installed the update program because the server that runs the program for free hasn't updated...gee I wonder why.

Maybe I'll try again in another 10 years...but I doubt it. Thanks for another waste of time.
