Well, the whole extend section is on the shoulders of a few man at hand -mostly sam2kb- afaik. it is too much a task for a few man.That's one of the two reasons, where the latter is the fact that there are not really much plugins to add there recently.
This is a chronic problem for b2, the core may be better than wp but the importance of extensions are underrated.
