Absolute beginner to the webserver world - currently working through installing b2evolution after setting up the server with xampp.
Now I'm up to the step of setting the various file permissions using FileZilla.
No matter what I try I can't seem to get the new permissions to stick. They never save even when I've made sure they are not 'read-only' in Windows etc.
Is there something I'm missing?

difficulty setting up your permissions isnt a b2evo install issue, it might seem like one right now, but really, its not.
What you need to do is acquant yourself with what it takes to administer whatever server youre using; It sounds like youre doing this locally?
Then you work on actually installing a package like a blog.
Its called crawling before walking.
Im going to move this post OUT of the install area (where you posted it) and perhaps someone will assist you -- if not, I REALLY reccomend some reading, and getting involved with forums/groups that support XAMP setups exclusively.
