When I add the "Archives" widget, it gets added to the widget list as an "Inactive/Uninstalled plugin", which of course is not. Subsequent visits to the widget list show the widget name instead of that string.
The Archives widget is a plugin. The fact that it is shown as an "Inactive/Uninstalled plugin" is confusing, though. I also have experienced this behaviour -- it seems to be caused by the Javascript widget screen etc.
