Before I upgraded the posts showed the number of views for the post. That is now gone. Did the upgrade removed the number of views from the database or is it a template issue that I need to change? I am not seeing anything related to views on the post.

This is why I did not want to upgrade, upgrading breaks things.

Please advise.

Note: views counting is deprecated and will be removed in b2evolution 5.1.

Bleeding ..... Why not make it an option. If I have the server resources to handle it, then let me have it. You just rip out stuff without any concern for the harm you are going to cause the users of your software.

Which version do I want to use to have my post views back?

Hi @kim,

Several open source projects are getting rid of this kind of features, basically for two main reasons: 1) the resources subject and 2) there are many free tools available that can track your visits in a more efficient and accurate way (Google Analytics for example). Please, check this page for more details about the reasons: http://b2evolution.net/man/post-views-counting. Besides that, the first beta version of 5.1 was released in March 2014, and we did not receive any feedback about this feature until September 2014 when the stable 5.1.2 was released.

Also, nobody in the community has taken the lead on developing a plugin or a workaround to bring back view counting to users that still need/want it. That's part of the spirit of open source software.

Which version do I want to use to have my post views back?

It is still not deprecated in version 5.0.8.

Regards!

I see there are some bug fixes in 5.0.9; I am guessing it is still present in that release? I am not as excited as I was last night on this LOL. I see WordPress has a number of plugins and conversations on post hits. Even if they are not accurate, even if we take that only half are actual views, it gives us a quick indication of what types of posts are of interest to our readers just by visiting the front page of the site.

Do I need to reinstall? Did the upgrade remove the hit counts from the database since I don't see a list of database changes? Or it is possible to just overwrite the 5.1.2 files with the 5.0.8/9 files?

You need to recover your site from the backup that you did just before to upgrade. The 5.1.2 upgrade removed the views counter from the database.
