Good morning. I have used B2e for years now and it has been stable and fantastic. Recently installed an (empty) 6.11.5 and found a few minor rendering errors here and there such as code block errors in the registration form etc. I am using the included bootstrap forum skin set for logged in users only and all settings as default. These were easy to deal with but the main issue I am having and cannot find the cure for is that by default out of the box only admin has any posting capability. By default it is not supplying normal users with the blue post buttons so that they can post and participate. The registration, auto activation, and everything else is working flawlessly but after they come in they can't post anything because there are no buttons for them. I spent two days with the settings and cannot make it work. All the system checks are good. Hopefully I do not have to go set permissions for each and every new user. I would think this should work for them as default. I am at an impasse with this at the moment and can't continue to use this at all in this state.

Any time and help with this would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Hi

You have 2 possibilities:

1) change the owner of the collection to the user that needs to edit.
2) use collection advanced permissions

see here to enable advance collection permissions: https://b2evolution.net/man/collection-permission-settings
see here for advanced permissions https://b2evolution.net/man/advanced-permissions/

Advanced permission allow you to create groups that you can assign to users to have ie. edit/moderator etc.- permissions

Thank you very much for your time to reply. I am familiar with the advanced permissions feature from previous versions. In this case with this 6.11.5 version even these are not working to give the normal user group topic posting permissions no matter how I set them.

The collection permissions are right, the group permissions do not universally apply to all users in that group as it should. And even setting each users permissions still does not turn on the button to post new topics. I would not want to have to go set all these individual permissions for every new user anyhow. With a busy forum this is a problem, new users should be able to post both topics and comments as default unless otherwise restricted.

Thank you for the help but I have a hundred people waiting for me to make something usable in the next couple days. I have used this many times in the past and liked it but I fear someone has made an attempt to fix something that was not broken, evident with the content block errors and Etc. I could not even sign up here because your own registration was broken. there was a content block error with the country picker so there was no way to complete the registration forms. Again thank you for your time but I have no choice but to move on and choose something else. This has gone from good to worse...

Too bad.
I tested on my 6.11.5 installation. php 7.0.7, mariadb 10.0.32 and it works.

PS. I am just a b2evolution user like you. I do not maintain any of the b2evolution website or code.

Hi @ jrbentley

By button ~ do you mean a button in widget like interface in the right column or do you mean there is no link on the evobar at the top of the screen for users. Is there even an evobar for user?

There's another issue

I do not maintain any of the b2evolution website or code.
Then the person who does should be sorting out your issues. So how did it get installed?

If you do have some basic access and skills put this in the address bar of your browser [https://*****.***?dips=edit] uisn your base domain. If you have permisison to write a new post you will be taken there to enter it's content. Or yoy will get a red warning saying you don't have permission ~ try https://b2evolution.net?disp=edit.

Once you get this way of creating a new post you can place a link anywher and make it look like a button or a ??? anywhere on your site.

If it works for you but not guests or however you define normal users then yes it looks like a permission issue. If you don't get the red warning then maybe an installation or set up error
