Sometimes this weird errors are caused by a buggy plugin that is no longer supported in v5. I will suggest you to try some generic solutions in order to discard them before to go further.

1 Change the skin of your blog for a standard one (could be evopress).
2 Disable each widget and plugins one by one.
3 If steps one and two fail, then enable debugging mode and share its output at the index page (logged in and not).

Please come back to us with the result or your tests.

Note: you didn't report it, but your skin has two social icons at the header that are supposed to be animated on mouse over, but they apparently are not working this way.

I just got back to my computer and now the situation seems to have gotten a lot worse...now it says the database is missing a table and nothing loads at all.

I'm going to try to restore to prior to the upgrade and start again...

OK, I did a bunch of backup and restore...

I found a couple of problems based on your suggest:

"Democracy Poll" plugin was causing trouble

And, strangely, Blogroll is causing trouble.

I have disabled both and the site seems to be working.

I'm going to try to find a working blogroll widget

When I did the upgrade I got a SQL error about duplicate entry in some comment-related table. Not sure what that's going to mean...
