Illegal characters automatically converted? - Mike Myatt

Hi, my name is Mike Myatt and I have this problem with the extended characters, such as "smart" quote marks, elipses, apostrophes, etc. Those 'illegal' characters should be automatically converted when the post is submitted, however I don't know how to do that.
Is there a plugin that takes care of this?

Yabba and maybe Personman have experience in this area with their AstonishMe Display Code Plugin.

That has nothing to do with displaying code. I think Mike means those special chars, when you paste text from Word.

One could write a plugin which hooks where an item gets saved (and convert those).

Alternatively, the TinyMCE plugin has a "Paste from Word" button which should take care of this, too.
