My b2evolution Version: 1.8.x

Hello,
I use 1.8.1 for an internal company blog. I'd like the ability to turn off email notifications of certain posts. We're using the blog more for content management so I'd like control of when the group gets emailed. Is there any way to this? I'm comfortable editing the code.
