When folks pst comments, they're swalled up ina sea of tackback and ping info on the page; very difficult to sift through that to find the comment. I'd liek to, hopefulyl, remove that stuff and also make the default color for type in comments red. Any ideas?

You can disallow trackback in backoffice -> Blog settings -> general.
