Hey there,

ok, after my upgrade to 2.0.2 I liked to have a real TagCloud, based on tags, not on categories (this was good for 1.x, not for 2.x). I started to build a Plugin for b2evolution and here it is:

Download

It's only a Alpha, not tested on different Versions and I don't know if I'm going to change this. It works for me. Sorry, there are no Soucecode-Comments, no README or stuff.

Install it and place it as a widget to your sitebar.

Feel free to edit it and release it as a "real" Plugin, it would be nice if you can keep a short comment in the source, with a link to http://blog.dead-black-rose.de

Ok, that's it!

EDIT: New version online. Now there is a div-container for the tagcloud and a readme-file

2 Oct 29, 2007 18:53

Has anybody tested it? Some feedback would be nice...

3 Oct 29, 2007 21:28

I'll give it a spin :)

5 Oct 29, 2007 23:08

Thanks for the feedback. Any problems? Feature requests?

I think I'm going to make ist "final" :)

6 Oct 29, 2007 23:12

Well, I actually added an enclosing div to the plugin and styled that to position it etc. Other than that it does what it says on the packet :)
Thanks for the work.

7 Oct 29, 2007 23:14

Ok, thanks. Good idea. I'll add this to the plugin and add a readme. Do you know who is responsible for the offical plugin-list?

8 Oct 29, 2007 23:29

No, but contact Yabba. He'll point you in the right direction :)

13 Nov 05, 2007 22:37

when you go to your widgets tab, is it showing up with the other sidebar widgets?
If not, click on Add Widget. Also remember the old but trusty rule of going to your Tools tab->Misc and click on delete pre rendered item cache

15 Nov 05, 2007 22:49

John

Its in the sidebar, in the widgets tab, snuggled in between my democracy poll and Long Description of this Blog

Tears

Ive gone in there and Ive left it all alone and also put rendering to always. Still not showing.

18 Nov 05, 2007 22:57

Sorry, stupid question: Have you inserted any tags?

19 Nov 05, 2007 22:58

see, where would I do that theres no option to! in the params in the widgets tab to edit this widget theres nothing at all. just a blank area!

20 Nov 05, 2007 23:00

*lol* you have to insert tags when you post. Go to the advance posting menu. There is an extra box for tags :)

21 Nov 05, 2007 23:04

Mmmm.... well it's not showing at all in your source code so the problem is in the installation process.

Try and locate it away from the POLL gizmo. I didn't even think it worked on v2.0.2. It's also pretty intensive and could be causing a problem :)

Just try and locate it as the last/bottom sidebar widget to see if it shows up.

22 Nov 05, 2007 23:04

ok BUT wouldn't at least the title and your credit link show?

advance posting? Im at the advanced tab in blog settings, pretty sure thats not it.

Come on now gotta make it easy for the dummies! :)

23 Nov 05, 2007 23:05

The TagCloud will not display if there are no tags to display. If there are no tags it's useless and ugly. Look at the Source-Code ;)

24 Nov 05, 2007 23:07

ok so mr smarty pants how the heck do I add a tag!?

25 Nov 05, 2007 23:08

Bingo..... Tears is right
When you post make Tags....... it's a box at the bottom of your posting screen. Just edit a few recent posts and add tags to them...

Tag clouds need Tags

26 Nov 05, 2007 23:12

well why didn't you all say that in the first place...sheesh

Thank you so much for helping me out with that. I can figure most of these thingies out though trial and error but man this one had me stumped.

Lots o hugs n kisses for you two. Wait no scratch kisses hubby wouldn't like that. Or maybe a forehead kiss thats kinda motherly and non sexual :)

27 Nov 05, 2007 23:17

Ok, it's very simple:

First you have to use the Expert Writing Menü (see Screenshot)

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/9678/step01xd7.th.gif

Now you have some more options. Below the large Textarea where you insert your blog text there is a Field called "Tags" (Screenshot). Just enter some Tag-Words seperated with spaces and if you are done with your blog post save it like you are used to.

http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/5991/step02tc4.th.gif

If you have installed the tagcloud and if it's correctly attached as widget the tagcloud should be visible after you have added your first post with tags.

28 Nov 05, 2007 23:19

oh man your cracking me up with the pictures. You must be a teacher :P

29 Nov 05, 2007 23:22

:D no, but I have supported many users - Webdesigner / Web-Supporter

Does it work now?

31 Nov 15, 2007 14:19

Great widgets ! it works like a charm !

i wonder if it's possible to make this plugin aware of the
default language a determined blog is using like :

blog 1 and 3 are french, blog 2 and 4 are dutch..

any chance to see this in future version ?

32 Nov 15, 2007 14:35

Mhh... what exactly do you mean? Different title for different languages?

33 Nov 15, 2007 15:48

I mean showing only tags relevant to the default language used by the blog
my point is to not have any french words in the middle of a dutch only blog.
see my idea ?

ps: also would it be possible to show tags only from the blog the widget is in ?

34 Nov 15, 2007 16:05

time to times i get the following error :

Additional information about this error:

MySQL error!

Duplicate entry 'bio' for key 2(Errno=1062)

Your query: insert new tags

INSERT INTO evo_items__tag( tag_name )

VALUES ( 'végétarienne' ),( 'bio' )

i don't understand why this happen, it's happening everytime i add tags
but it's happening like randomly, in the case above if i delete the tag "bio"
then everything is fine, i don't know why it's happens with that word since there is plenty of other articles with the same tag has other articles and it don't seem to be a problem...

:-/

Edit : i just found out maybe the reason of duplicates tag :

it seem that this plugin is case sensitive, it's not the same Rice and rice,
wouldn't be easier for the end-user to not use case sensitive tags ?

35 Nov 15, 2007 18:46

This is a bug in b2evolution, not in the plugin. Got the same here, even without the plugin.

Your ideas look fine, I'll think about it :)

36 Nov 16, 2007 15:03

oh it's from B2evolution then.. OK

Thanks again for this nice widget !

37 Nov 16, 2007 15:53

i gave it a shot, and works for las vegas 2.1 thank you !

38 Nov 20, 2007 11:09

I would be very interested to apply Daniel Zelder modifications into this plugin, only problem, when i try to..the tag cloud plugin stop rendering and also, i get a blank sidebar..i'm surely not getting the trick...:-/
so anyone into explaining to me how to apply this modifications to this widget ?

thanks in advance..

another weird thing : (using default real tag cloud widget)

for a tag to appear in the real tag cloud widget in my sidebar, i have to insert tags in my post, this is OK - now go here : http://www.vajra.be/?tag=video
i have 2 articles tagged video and it ain't showing any articles for this tag, but the tags exist (and already worked, showing me 2 articles in one of my blog, but not in the main default blog)

some tags works, other don't..
does it have something to do with the way tags are used ?
like Daniel Zelder was saying on this post

Your blog url is http://yourblog/index.php/yourblog/?tag=Internet

You click on a tag and it calls
http://yourblog/?tag=Internet

EDIT : it seems to be, because if i use (even using the default widget)
where "Ecologie" is on of the blog i get :

http://vajra.be/index.php/Ecologie/?tag=video
instead of http://www.vajra.be/?tag=video

and it works like perfect !!!

:D

ps: can't wait to have this working like that natively with this widget :D

39 Nov 20, 2007 12:36

Hey there,

I'm about coding a new version with the changes from Daniel Zelder and some other stuff. The change of Daniel works for me but there is still a problem if you use
index.php?blog=7
and not
index.php/blogname/

I'll try to fix that and upload a new, fixed version.

Displaying only tags from one blog looks very hard for me, sorry but this has to wait :(

40 Nov 20, 2007 12:41

Oh Great !! this is very good news, i was just checking your blog and i see that your tags are already working like the new version ! nice stuff!

for the blog only tags...No problem..I'll wait for such a good thing like that !

so in the new version all the tags in the cloud are going to be a mix from all blog tags but the widget "know" wich tag is from wich blog right ?

41 Nov 20, 2007 14:50

Ok, here we go:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/realtagcloud/

- Bug fixt, Tag Cloud is always linking to the default blog
- Only Tags of the active Blog are displayed
- You can add a rel="nofollow" to the links in the plugin settings

Hope everything fits now :)

Aggregatorblogs are not showing correctly.

This would be part of the soollution if I was into coding (I don't understand anything of it ;)

function SkinBeginHtmlHead()
{
global $Blog, $timestamp_max, $DB;
// lets get all blogs for this blog if it's an aggregate blog
$blog_list = $Blog->get_setting( 'aggregate_coll_IDs' );
// add in this blog
$blog_list .= ( $blog_list ? ',' : '' ).$Blog->ID;

// set the time limit ( this *should* work for future posts as well )
$time_limit = date2mysql( ( $timestamp_max == 'now' ? time() : $timestamp_max ) );

// grab a list of all potential posts
$sql = 'SELECT DISTINCT post_ID
FROM T_items__item INNER JOIN T_postcats ON post_ID = postcat_post_ID INNER JOIN T_categories ON postcat_cat_ID = cat_ID
WHERE ( cat_blog_ID IN ( '.$blog_list.' ) )
 AND ( ( post_ptyp_ID IS NULL
 OR post_ptyp_ID NOT IN (1000) ) )
 AND ( post_datestart <= \''.$time_limit.'\' )

// and save them for later
$this->post_ID_list = implode( ',', $DB->get_col( $sql ) );
}

ha ha, I was confused Tags with Categories. Now the problem has been resolved. Thanks at any rate.

==================

Hi, Tears,

I run into a problem of using your Real Tagcloud. First I thought there is some problem in the handling of tags written in language other than English since I can't do a manual search for my categories. But now I have been convincted it is not the case.

The problem is, after "succesful" installation, there is nothing to display in the web page. So I look further. And I read into the codes and found the following four tables are joined in order to produce a list of "tags", in the function of SkinTag.

_categories
_items_item
_items_itemtag
_items_tag

In my case, I have a running blog with a few postings already. And each posting has marked with some categories. So the first two tables are populated already. But the second tables are still empty.

So my really question is, which operation is responsible to populate the last two tables so that your program can pick up a list with some categories. In another word, other than installing your plug-in, is there something esle we as blogger (or admin) need to do in order to see a cloud coming out on the web page?

(To be sure, if I inserted a message line in your code, yes, I can see the message line showing up in the place where the RealTagCloud is set. So the installation is good, and the program is running. So my question is less technical but operational, I think.)

Thanks.

Tags from articles not yet published (date in the future) are counts and could be displayed. But when someone click on it he receives an error: "no article to display"

46 Jan 23, 2011 18:10

The plugin Real TagCloud works well except when the tag has a non-English character such as in Spanish (á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ).

Any ideas how to solve this?

47 Jan 23, 2011 18:59

This plugin is very old. Why don't you use the Tag cloud widget shipped with b2evo?

48 Jan 24, 2011 11:36

sam2kb,

I followed your suggestion but the results are the same. Here's what happens:

The tag cloud shows the word "Opinión" (accented o), when it looks the word it turns it to "opini%F3n:" which of course doesn't exist.

I looked into another Spanish blog and noticed the accented words are not changed, why does it do in in my case?

You can see my case here:

http://www.literanova.net

Any ideas at all? Anybody?

I don't know what the solution is, but you can stop focusing in the Tag Cloud plugin. It's something to do with the general blog setup or locale settings. If you notice... you have the same issue with the tags at the bottom of each of your posts, as well.

Yet categories with accented characters seem to work just fine.

I'd guess a locale thing.

51 Jan 25, 2011 05:22

You need to switch your blog to UTF-8. Convert the database and edit locale charset on Global settings > Regional tab.

Don't forget to backup the database first ;)

52 Jan 25, 2011 13:55

sam2kb, as far as I understand, all that is done in my blog.
Locale is Spanish-VE UTF-8
Database is UTF-8

Could I be wrong about this? How can I find out?

53 Jan 25, 2011 15:43

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />

That's what I see when I view page source code

Go to Global settings > Regional > and set "utf-8" charset for your Spanish-VE locale

54 Jan 27, 2011 02:21

sam2kb, I was certain I was using the ES-VE utf-8... but I wasn't. I've changed it now but the problem persists. The tag cloud still doesn't accept accented characters.
I'm really lost here.
