Re your first point...
In Admin, goto Blog Settings -> Features -> Feedback Options
In the drop down box next to New feedback status: simply select "Published"

Re Google, the standard installation is very Google friendly and your site just may need some time before it's well and truly Googled

i do have one other unrelated question if you don't mind: the extended version of each post (after the "more separator") includes the "follow up" line. how can i get rid of this line or change it to say something else?
