My b2evolution Version: 2.x

is there a low tech way to put a banner ad on the right side of the dark contrast skin ? i am new to all of this, i dont understand the containers etc but from what i can tell the skin seems limited . i poked around in the back office tried adding things like a calender etc but it keeps stating that there is no side bar .
