You can modify the existing job to check and delete old entries from the database.
I guess I'm thinking of creating a plugin with a configuration page that allows me to set some parameters. Silly most likely, but good practice. I'll look at the test plugin and the jobs that are already stored in the database and poke around a little.
Do you really have hundreds of thousands of entries in cron table?
Give me about fifty-thousand days and I might. ;)
EDIT: Not sure if "Feature Requests" was the ideal place to move this to, but... :-/
