have now tried everything without success, the category is still there

Blog ->inc ->widgets ->widgets ->_coll_category_list.widget.php
'option_all' => array(
'type' => 'text',

Are you talking about the category list widget? You can disable it on Blog settings > Widgets tab.

Hi sommer11,

I am working with version 3.3.1 but I think it works also with other versions:

To delete the category "all" go to the admin section, chose

1) your blog then
2) widgets, here the category list widget
3) click on "edit"

At the next window you can change the title of the widget and in the next row you see "option all" --> delete "all".
