Let me ask you a genuine question: do you really still get any real trackbacks in 2012?
In my opinion, trackback is a broken protocol that only helps spammers and it's obsolete. (I have disabled trackbakcs on my own sites, years ago)

Back when I used Wordpress, they were all about using pingbacks rather than trackbacks, because trackbacks were easier to spoof or something (that was years ago). I still see where popular blogs get valid pingbacks (I get nothing, of course). Does b2evolution handle pingbacks? I see some references in the skin and XML-RPC files as feedback types, but not anything that would actually handle them.
I do get some spam trackbacks on my blog, but they're always stopped by the antispam plugins (but appear in the logs where they tried).
I support this. After my update to version 4.1.5 there will be a not working captcha plugin of blueyed here. And a not working recaptcha plugin (which will not block any trackback spam, if I'm right).
So there is the neccessary of a working captcha plugin now.
