There are currently not many bugs left, but still, it's not recommended for an average user to use it, especially for production.

1.8 is pretty much stable, the main reasons for tagging it an alpha are:
- performance: it is a little slower a memory consuming than 0.9
- some "annoying" issues like getteing notifications even for drafts or posts published in the future.
- the APIs are "under construction" and you cannot rely on something in the alpha to remain the same in subsequent versions.
Nothing that crashes bad, but itching details ;)
All basic functionnality is perfecly operational though.
there is no 1.8 alpha...
1.8 is still in cvs en therefor is not stable
