Hi -

Has anybody attempted integrating TinyMCE into the new 1.8.2 b2evo? Any sucesses or failures? I'd like to hear about them.

edit: See http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?p=46909 for the thread about the plugin.

I've used TinyMCE a few times, and dislike it due to the fact it needs to load sooo many files each and every single time you see it.

In my own work now, i use wysiwyg pro, but that is shareware and comes at a price, so you could not really add this to b2evo for public use.

TinyFck i haven't looked at, but i here it is quite good. I would imagine a plugin with some minor hacks could implement it.

It doesn't affect me, so i don't see myself spending anytime making the plugin/hack come to life. Which is how most developers think when they are short on time.

There's a plugin already:
http://manual.b2evolution.net/Plugins/tinymce_plugin

Created by a dev short on time.. ;p

Also, I don't think loading of files is an issue, because a) they get normally cached and b) there's a php wrapper that speeds it up (though I'm not sure if this was with tinymce or fckeditor) - I'm not using the plugin myself.

Edit: It can be installed in the "v-1-9" variant at http://demo.b2evolution.net/ btw for testing.

I thought it just died as an idea.

Edit: Just gave the demo site a look, the normal formatting bar apears to break it, so shouldn't there be a way to remove that bar, or maybe that bar could be turned into a plugin as well, in which the tinymce plugin can disable or whatever.

Offtopic;
Also noticed that the plugin grouping is in there, i can take a look into applying it for the installed plugins table in december. If so, pm/email me or something about it.

I thought I would explain the my motivation behind searching for a TinyMCE plugin. We have chosen b2evolution as the blog software for the library here at UC Berkeley. Anyone who works for the library can start a blog. Since we have the campus infrastructure, bandwidth is not a problem for us, and we have a large population of literate, verbal, educated people who are not necessarily competent in HTML. So a WYSIWYG editor makes perfect sense for us.
I'd like to help with the plugin.

The plugin will work well enough in 1.8.x probably.. no need to get b2evo from CVS.

garey, if you want to improve the plugin, patches are very welcome. I think there would be some decent (default) toolbar set(up) needed.

Update: it's also available in the v-1-8 variant on the demo site now.

:) Could a it be posted in the plugins forum, as it is commonly asked about. I think last week some people asked about it as well, and got no reply.

Edit: good stuff.
