right now the rss feed shows the entire post in the aggregator i use ... is there a way to edit the feed so it only shows the first few lines of the post?

Thanks

Is there a way to edit this at all?

I would like the author of each post to be sent, and possible the ability to add comments (such as LiveJournal or bBlog).

Poke around inside /b2/xmlsrv to start exploring how to edit what's displayed... just a step in the right direction.

In conf/_formatting.php you have $rss_excerpt_length, which allows you to set a specific number of characters that will show up in your rss2 and rdf feeds, but that doesn't mean your reader will read the truncated version. The full version is also part of the feed because that's what the specs for the feed require, and some readers don't bother showing the short version.

The rss2 feed has the code for author email id commented out because that spec says including the author email id is optional. The rdf and atom feeds include the author's preferred name because those specs allow (require?) that detail. Good old rss doesn't include an author field - probably because the spec doesn't allow for that type of content.

It's possible you can tinker around in the appropriate files in the xmlsrv folder till you're happy, but you might also find that feed readers won't even try because that's part of the whole deal: well formed documents (meaning meets the standards) or they give up. Browsers, on the other hand, have always been willing to *try* to make a page.
