Thanks again Francois, I'll take screen shots if it happens at the next auto but the text of the 503 ERROR page instructs to check the page source, which, in turn, has instructions to delete the i or u maintenance files ?? I can't see how the host would create such a file.
This is exactly why I am asking for a screenshot! So I can recognize which one it is without back and forth questioning.
SO you wrote:
All the install seemed to work fine until it prompts to update the database,
At this point you need to click on a button to update the database. Did you click that button? Did that exact button lead you to the 503 page you mention or did you click somewhere else?
Hi Just tried another website from 6.7.4 to 6.7.8 with similar problem, so I imagine it is my end.
I'm not too fussed about it as I will just ftp the whole 6.7.8 later, so please don't feel the need to answer promptly
The first problem is the 500 error, which seems to be my server, there is still the [umaintenance, html]
I get a 500 error with a note that there is a 404 error at http:rogerlovejoy.net/blog/install/index.php
If I go the the root of the blog http:rogerlovejoy.net/blog I get a 503 error
If I remove the [umaintenance,html]
http:rogerlovejoy.net/blog gives the update database screen but clicking to update the database takes me back to the 500 error with the additional 404
Think that's it :)
Not sure what is going on as I removed the install folder, now some 20 hours later I ftp'd the install folder and received the upgrade option and all it worked fine. Maybe the instructions to wait were appropriate; I just thought it meant minutes not hours :)
Will see what happens when 4.8.0 is ready
Thanks

Wrong. That's the second problem and not even a real problem. Just the consequence of the first problem.
The first problem is the question you still haven't answered:

Also, your screenshot are only 50% useful if they don't include the URL of the webbrowser.
Ok I'm loath to backtrack as both my main domains are fine now. Will see what happens when I do a 6.8.0 auto and log the results with screen shots with urls next time.
The problem is that I try to resolve the problems before I have recorded all the unwanted/unexpected screen outputs and then can't remember them well enough it seems.
Sorry to have put you through so much trouble
Thanks
Again this is missing a screenshot.
That 503 was probably NOT generated by b2evolution but by your webhost.
Again, the solution is to re-run the installer before removing the maintenance lock until the installer finishes correctly and removes the maintenance file itself.
