- Code blocks are not resized when you switch to full screen layout
- The text in preview is smaller than in published reply.

ok will be fixed.

Should we mark spam posts as spam or just remove it ? I mean removing it immedieately seems to be the right course, but if marking it will help blacklisting..
Speaking of spam -as always :P- can we have some kind of spam control with patterns ? Because usually the spam comes as waves, one time it was 'women bags', then 'nba jerseys' etc. We could easily ban certain keywords / domains that cause problems to us.It shouldnt hurt to ban such specific keywords.
Btw, i do not have control over users for now i guess, we will be able to delete spam users later too right ?

Thanks for the quote sam2kb, i missed that part it seems. So basically we just change spam posts from community to review and leave it at that.
8 fplanque Nov 26, 2012 18:21
Yes i will Review everything that is under review, analyze it and delete it.
Trust me there will be many new "1 click" antispam tools down the road. This is just an alpha version.
( The game is to make it much faster to remove spam than to create it. )
9 tilqicom Nov 26, 2012 19:09
Ok.
And another thing; signatures ? anyone ?
You will mention that signatures are prone to spam i think, but for regular users, it's a nice way of promoting their blog, or themselves with quick contact info for those who doesnt know / bother to go to user profile page.
Even if we wont use it in here b2 forums, -for other blogs- a forum always needs signature ability and it'd be cool if it can be implemented
10 fplanque Nov 27, 2012 00:45
Yes we'll implement signatures but it's not the highest priority. User reputation for example comes first.
11 tilqicom Nov 28, 2012 12:56
It'd be nice if moderators could see pending posts/topics in "latest replies", it would make it real easy to track new posts/topics, especially when we dont have "orange" for new posts/topics.But even when orange is back, it would still come handy.
PS: i have just approved a topic (http://forums.b2evolution.net/user-emails) but it doesnt seem in latest replies.
Btw, a tiny thing; permalinks might need a second thought (http://forums.b2evolution.net/user-emails), i mean a category prefix might be handy for seo purposes and/or identification.
1-There might be topics out there with same titles and i think it would not be nice to have user-emails1, user-emails2 in the url.
12 fplanque Nov 28, 2012 13:11
The short term plan is to add "Latest Questions"
13 tilqicom Nov 28, 2012 13:15
fplanque wrote:

that'd do.
1- It seems to edit topic, we have to edit the first post. And thats okay. But a tiny edit link in first post or near title would be nice too.
2- A "locked" and / or "solved" topic type, for topics that do not need further discussion ?
14 fplanque Nov 28, 2012 14:01
Good ideas! :)
Would it make sense to let the original poster declare the "best reply", a little bit like Yahoo Answers and that kind of sites do it?

fplanque wrote:

May be, but not entirely necessary i think.Since there are not many people throwing ideas, let alone a solution, so it's very unlikely that a topic will have multiple solutions.
OTOH, we could do sth. similar; b2 has up / down for comments in v5 right ? We could use that..For example, in broad topics (with 50+ replies, tens of pages), it's hard to dig out the answer you need, and it might not be the last post, or the one marked as solution.
We could use + / - for each post(comment), so that posts with more +'s would display first. It would allow me to see most useful 3-4 replies out of 50, or maybe 150.
Not many users visit forums these days, i doubt it would be very effective. But could prove a better future investment.
16 sam2kb Nov 28, 2012 20:55
We could use + / - for each post(comment), so that posts with more +'s would display first. It would allow me to see most useful 3-4 replies out of 50, or maybe 150.
Then there must be a link to see all replies sorted by date. Sometimes on youtube you have to read all comments twice, first on the main page (promoted) and then they also appear later on. The whole thread would be mixed up if one reply mentions or quotes the other.
I think it's better to do it like on the picture. Note that replies with negative rating are blended with the background. The more negative their rating is the more "invisible" they get. This way we can keep original order too.
17 tilqicom Nov 28, 2012 22:24
I think we should focus on the positive side, since negative usually means very bad, hardly releveant/useful comment, while neutral is supposedly relevant and positive is useful. So instead of taking out negative ones, we should promote the positive ones.
I dont think we have to order them permanently in terms of #id, but we can manipulate the view by jQuery sort (cookie order, temprorary db order ) may be ?Assume post #13 has +5 positive votes, #14 has is neutral, #16 is -2 and #17 is +2, #18 is also neutral, the greater the vote value, the lower the order would be.So they would be ordered in an array of 13, 17, 14, 18, 16.
I dont know if the ^above makes a lot of sense, just throwing ideas and i am kinda sleepy : D just food for thought
If that's a no go, we could simply highlight positive ones where as they are.If we have to keep the order same and only do highlighting, we might as well gray out the negative ones like sam2kb suggested. But doing both might be too fancy and distracting.

I would rather highlight and grayout them instead of reordering. Reordering would be distractive. Check the microsoft answers, check youtube, they all mixed/messed up.
19 sam2kb Nov 28, 2012 22:48
Anyway, whatever we do, there must be an option in the backoffice to disable this new feature completely.

Alex wrote:

As a matter of fact, i like youtube top comments very much that sometimes i go into videos just to read the comments :D I dont bother reading rest of them.
But if reorder or even highlighting seems extreme, we might do something more subtle like vote-meter, which would grow longer as the post gets upvoted.Pretty much like another version of star-rating or reputation stars. There's plenty of space after [■ Posted: Date] at the top bar, or the bottom bar as well, following the buttons [prof, pm ,ww]
21 fplanque Nov 29, 2012 16:48
Of course it's going to be optional.
There already are some voting button in v5 and they already are optional (and not enabled on these forums yet).
I don't like reordering either. It's messy. I like highlighting. Maybe we could also fold (in JS) the most irrelevant ones.
22 tilqicom Nov 29, 2012 19:48
I just noticed that the topics are not paginated, so yeah, just highlighting would do good.Or like i mentioned before a "votemeter" for post.
Another idea for highlighting; the post would "heat up" as it gets more positive votes, and become more obvious, starting from a dim, slight orange, up to a bright full one. There may be simply 3-4 for levels of heat, or some cool trick would be choosing a base color, and changing hex values to brighter as the vote count increments, ffbd89, ffbd88, ffbd87 ffbd86
See both screenshots for both.
http://s7.postimage.org/sr9f1rdob/vote_o.jpg
If we go for votemeter, we can use some cool animated css bars as in:
http://css-tricks.com/examples/ProgressBars/
How about nesting, when "reply with quote" is used (reddit style). We do not have to nest too obviously, we might just add a subtle 2-5px indent.
PS: Multiple attachments ? Cant i add two images ?
Btw, should we put a little arrow and open external links in new tab ?
23 moderator Nov 29, 2012 20:00
Intersting.
Click on "Preview/add file" for multiple attachments. (Obviously not obvious enough, we'll make 2 buttons)
24 tilqicom Nov 29, 2012 20:17
Ah, now i see.But it does not make much sense : D So if i have to add 3 pictures, i have to preview 2 times right ?
So when editing post, i cant add another attachment ?
Cant you put one that supports multiple files as in the file uploader

25 tilqicom Nov 29, 2012 22:53
Btw, if we decide to use heating up post highlighting, instead of playing with complicated hex values like i suggested above; we can simply make rgb & a++, or a fancier way, a gradient that starts out from top and fills as the post gets hotter, the most popular post would be completely colored.
26 fplanque Nov 30, 2012 03:29
I have enabled the helpful / not helpful voting. It's not anything like what was discussed above *BECAUSE* this was implemented months ago already (for another site). But I thought it would be an interesting starting point.
Do you think there is some merit in not showing what others have voted before the user has voted? (in order not to influence his vote).
If so, we could still highlight the posts above a certain score. I think the important is not to influence people at the beggining until a clear trend has emerged. The idea could be to highlight anything above say 80% helpful and to fold anything above 80% unhelpful.

We need a Top and Reply buttons to scroll the screen up to the top and down to the reply form.
I just noticed that it took me 11 scrolls to post a comment here :)

I dont think hiding until after voting is absolutely necessary.Since we are not rating creativity or anything, and it's not a contest, i dont think there's place for influence or bias here.Pretty much like the reputation, ie; you wouldnt +rep someone just because he has more reputation right ?
30 tilqicom Nov 30, 2012 09:08
Is this rating also available for b2evo-posts ? If not, can it be implemented too ? Might come handy.
Btw, i think we should not be able to rate our own comments-posts.And rating is not working in "latest replies"
What type of check is it using to avoid voting multiple times ? I see that it's member-only, but it would be more effective & accurate if more people chips in -as long as the check is applied right- by which i'd suggest visitors may be able to vote too.

I usually click on "last post by" icon, or use "latest reply" to keep track, so i didnt even notice that.Btw, "post reply" button takes you to the bottom anyway, i dont see exactly what the problem is.
Btw you could click your scroll button and move to bottom faster, or simply press End next time, you know :P
32 sam2kb Nov 30, 2012 16:51
Yep, I just found a "Post a reply" button, didn't notice it before :)
However there's still no "Back to the top" button. Latest replies is different, it moves you to the other page.

Doesn't matter, next to user pic probably.
I would change "Back to top" with an icon, and add a PM icon next to it.
48 sam2kb Dec 07, 2012 01:13
We should add a border to avatars and attached images. Something like this
img { padding: 2px; background: #FFF; border: 1px solid #CCC }
49 sam2kb Dec 11, 2012 01:13
The word hyphen with a dot at the end is blacklisted.
Maybe it's time to revise the antispam blacklist.
50 tilqicom Dec 18, 2012 21:58
"Latest replies" is a great way to keep a track of new posts, especially when the orange is not around.
But, "first post" of the topic does not count as a post since it's not a latest-comment.
So you cant actually track new topics, just new replies to existing topics.Any way to throw them in there too ? We cant just go around in every section and look if there's a new thread i think
51 fplanque Dec 19, 2012 20:20
I know. We're working on this.
We have given absolute priority to the v5 release for the last 2 months, we need to do a little cooling off and housekeeping for christmas before we go back to the crazy development cycle ;)

58 slamp Mar 05, 2013 10:22
I was out few months, too much work IRL, here is my feedback about new forums.
- banner's color (green) on the right (ie public) is a little agressive. May be a color much in adequation with the skin will be better
- it's strange to have the skin of phpbb but not all features. A skin closed to b2evolution blog will be better.
- smilies toolbar is missing by default
- the link on question mark for smilies point to an old wiki page
Questions:
- By curiosity did you use code from phpbb or only images ?
- Is the visibility status apply for each post or for topic ? (I mean could we have on one topic public post AND private post ?)
59 fplanque Mar 05, 2013 18:05
The bright color is important so that spammers see immediately their crap is not published and goes through moderation. The visibility status is individual to each post/reply.
There is no code from phpBB, only design elements to serve as a transition ( and also because we were a bit lazy on designing something new... But it's a temporary step).
I actually don't like the graphical smilies any more ;). -- gotta fix the links though
60 tilqicom Oct 13, 2013 18:36
Now that we have @mentions , it'd be cool if the @mentioned_user got notified by an email. Most people dont log in the forums every day, so it'd be good to notify esp. in cases that requires that users attention.

I'd like to make a request: when I am signed up to be notified of replies to the forum threads, I also get notifications for my own posts to said threads. I really find it annoying to be emailed about my own posts, I only want to get notified when someone has replied.
