Hi Everyone. I have downloaded b2evolution, unzipped it and uploaded it via ftp to a server. I still have to configure the config files, etc. Do I have to create a database for this manually? I ask because my hosting company, Bodhost, no longer has this blog pre-installed so instead of a one-click installation procedure, I'm having to download, upload and probably download again after I've changed the config files as I have no php editor on my computer so will have to do it on the server. Any advice whatsoever would be appreciated, particularly if I need to create a database or not.

PS I forgot to mention I've got 5.0.6 stable.

Hello @janchamb,

Welcome to b2evolution. Yes, you need to create the database and no, you don't need to manually create the configuration files, there is an installer that will do it for you. All you have to do is follow the steps on this page: http://b2evolution.net/man/installation-upgrade/new-install/installation (it will send you to another one), and your site will be up and running in a couple of minutes.

Any question you have after reading the instructions, please come back to us and we'll be glad helping you.

Regards!

Hi
Thanks for that link. I've already read that though and have found several index pages in the b2evolution folder. None of them seem to contain simple instructions. I've got the program unzipped and up on the server. I've changed permissions. I've created a database. But none of the urls I'm using seem to access the dashboard or login. Am at a loss. I'm not a coder but I have downloaded and uploaded tons of stuff in the past and I've also used b2evolution before which is why I want it on my website. It's far superior to wordpress in every way. Any advice appreciated.

Well, all that you need to do after uploading the files in the server is go to your site through the browser.

The very first page that you will open contents the initial instructions that you need to succesfully install b2evolution. Please, go to http://yourdomain/b2evofolder and look for the link Installing b2evolution from scratch ยป.

Best regards!

Hiya
I got it up and running. Someone installed it for me. Just playing around with the site now and trying to figure out what's happend to the advanced editor. I really appreciate you posting those instructions though and thank you for the time it must have taken you to do so. I'm not sure that my download worked properly in the first place. Winrar had to repair it because when extracting files I got the message that it had come to an unexpected end? Microsoft, eh? They're first-class meddlers who create havoc on my netbook when I try to download anything. But all's well that ends well!
Thanks again.
Jan
