Though I note your concern I can only comment that a) I don't particularly want to receive more emails from anyone, so will not register and b) don't want more pressure on you. Still if you ask for pressure then I'm sure someone will oblige :)
Other than that it seems a logical option.

I used to have a link my website that went red when there was an update or important news, so maybe some sort of indicator her would work. Mine just checked the date of the visitor and any recent changes to the site.
