whats a widget version 2.X

Im not going to pretend to be a developer, Im not even sure how I do half the things I do.

AS far as I can workout a widget is a piece of code that is inserted in the sidebar containers on the templates in the new version.

What does a widget consist of? I would guess its a start code and an end code with the required code for the function in the middle.

If this is the case would it be a case of using the start code and end code and you can put things like affiliate links or adverts in the middle.

I wish I was as clever as most of you here but that will never happen, I don't get the time to read up on things in depth but I just like to understand a bit how things work.

Thanks for that its a great read.

Its just what I wanted to know, Ive learnt a lot.

I think I will leave the widgets to the professionals for now.

I can handle the widget in the bottom of a beer can that makes the froth when you open it, ill stick with them for now.
