Yes, my basic_config.php is up to date. This is a new install, not an upgrade as such. I now think theres other problems. Have just been looking around and a number of the blog pages are coming up 404 cant display. I should start again perhaps?

Well, as long as you have your _basic_config.php all filled in and correct, I agree that a new install is the best thing to try next.
Did the http://yoursite.com/install proceedure work once you uploaded everything?

I installed once first using database one then realised some of the files hadnt uploaded properly, namely the skins_adm and xmlsrv folders. I uploaded these, deleted database one, created database two, uploaed fresh, original conf folder and ran install again. I think Ive messed it up. Will start over again. Can I confirm that to start over I:
a) delete blog folder from ftp
b) delete database two
c) create new database
d) upload fresh blog
?
Thanks for your help.

Well, I'm no expert.... especially when it comes to database.
You might have to wait for one of those bright young gurus ...

I'll add a few tips & tricks.
Just upload the files and run the install. There's no need to delete the database.
Make sure you have got enough memory for php to function, see the docs In other parts of the docs there's more on installation.
If this is a cookie related issue, delete the cookies from your browser
Be patient. Logging in a few times with intervals may settle the problem mysteriously.
Good luck

Thanks Afwas.
I did start over with the strong feeling I was missing files. Believe it or not second time around I was missing files again. Found and uploaded files, refreshed, did get login form but it just kept refreshing and emptying the login and pswd boxes when I hit "login button". So, I cleared cookies and did re-install as you suggested above. Instead of "Creating b2evolution tables..." I got this error:
Additional information about this error:
MySQL error!Duplicate entry 'online-casino' for key 2(Errno=1062)
Your query:
INSERT INTO evo_antispam(aspm_string)

I actually had this one briefly this morning too but didnt take alot of notice, we seemed to move past it
Update: Oooh, it has let me login anyway, seems to be working 8| . Can I realistically pretend that last error never happened?

Can I realistically pretend that last error never happened?
While many would say you can never "realistically pretend", it does look like your on your way.
Good luck with it
