Random Picture plugin version 0.4

== Update ==
Version 0.4 is a maintenance update after ¥åßßå had a look at the code (thanks) and made some valuable suggestions.
If you are upgrading and now have errors and warnings on your blog you want to go to Blog settings -> Widgets -> edit the Random Picture plugin and change the URL to the images folder to "images/" without the quotes.
== End Update ==

== Breaking News ==
Version 0.3 fixes a bug in Internet Explorer.
Simply download through the link gives you the most recent version.
== End Breaking News ==

== Newsflash ==
Version 0.2 is out. It has widget specific settings: Title, Path to images and Maximum width. By putting the settings in the widget, you can choose different settings for different blogs or even different containers.

The download link presented here leads to version 0.2.
If you have the BOPIT plugin installed you will automatically be informed of new versions.
== End Newsflash ==

I made a plugin to display a random image from a folder in the sidebar. Due to lack of imagination it is called the Random Picture plugin. Actually it is a widget, or a plugin for a widget with a widget in it, or something like that.
The plugin takes the folder /plugins/randompic_plugin/images/ and is able to determine which files are in the folder. It then randomly takes one and displays it in a widget container.

You can put as many pictures in the folder as you like.

What to do?

  • download and unzip this file: randompic_plugin.zip,

  • Upload to the /plugin/ folder of your blog,

  • In backoffice: install the plugin under Global settings -> Plugins install -> Install new,

  • In backoffice: install the widget in the sidebar Blog settings -> CHOOSE A BLOG -> Widgets -> (Sidebar) Add widget.

  • Put as many pictures as you like in the folder /plugins/randompic_plugin/images.

    I will make some changes in the near future, so do keep an eye on this topic and the forums. Please test thoroughly and report errors and also feature requests.

    Thanks. I just downloaded it again only to realize I already have it on my PC. I look forward to putting this to good use. If not on my blog it'll be handy on another installation I get to play in.

    Hi EdB,

    Do have a look at the code. It's a kind of basic core widget, so if you cut out the random image stuff, have a go with your own imagination.

    Have fun

    When I go to Global settings, etc., the plugin does not appear in the list of plugins to install (version 3.3). Why is this so?

    Aaargh. Problem solved. Installed the higher level folder.

    First post, just registered as I am having issues with making the plugin work.

    I hope someone could help me out here, as this is driving me nuts.

    The URL to my blog is:
    http://izz0.freehostia.com/blog/blog1.php

    I am using FreeHostia to run the blog, and they offer several preinstalled options if you want a blog;
    I chose b2evolution, and set it up.

    However...

    I can't get the Recent photos plugin that comes with b2evolution to work.
    I have tried enabling/disabling it - no go.
    It shows in the sidebar (Recent photos), but there is no photo below it.

    The Random picture plugin does not work either - for me at least.
    It is correctly installed and enabled, however it doesn't even show in the sidebar.

    In settings I have specified the correct folder, and also left the trailing slash.

    I have tried putting the photos in several different folders on the host, set up the permissions, etc. - still nothing!

    I thought it could be the skin that causes this; changed skins too, to no avail.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!
