I'm much happier with SMF than I ever have been with phpBB. While SMF is *free*, it's not necessarily open source per se. Invision is completely proprietary. For that reason, you'll probably not see either of those integrated with a true OSS like b2evo.

Vanilla forums is a nice open source package. Another is Phorum as is NextBBS.
