do you get any other error messages or warnings? I suppose I've already fixed this in the CVS.
You could try replacing the file inc/comments/_trackback.funcs.php with the [url=http://tinyurl.com/b2evo24-trackback-fix]CVS version[/url].

It's been a while since I worked with this but what I recollect in my situation was that I had either one or both of my to/from within my domain behind a password-protected subdir - I was sending trackbacks internally between blogs for testing purposes. Once that was removed, it worked.

Hope you find the solution for yours.
