On the Users tab click the group name to edit the group, then the top setting is about admin link. Give them the third choice, which I think is something like "visible".

That's exactly what was needed. I've added it to the manual under:

For my users that still gives too much stuff to see. I'd like to be able to set some of them so they can only write posts and nothing else, but they still see the blog Manage button.

I'm all for simplicity when it comes to user interfaces... :-)

Yeah I'm with you. There's quite a bit you can turn on and off for any given group/user, but to my mind it isn't granular enough. Trying to decide if I want to hack the snot out of the core so a bunch of noob users don't have to see scary stuff or just offer a hanky when they run and cry ;)
