So what you're saying is that the generic plugin doesn't actually work.
I haven't done anything with these URLs before and even if I had, I should still be able to assign an instance of the plugin to any directory with a valid and compliant pinging URL, surely?
Oh hang on, I see, you think I mean that I get the invalid message after I try to ping? No, the plug in itself won't accept the ping service URL on it's settings page.

I tried several URLs but this is an example:
http://rpc.twingly.com/
And I tried it with and without the http:// and the plugin refused both saying that it was an invalid URL.
