The standard "quick tags" toolbar plugin already lets you do 'code' and a few other things. My "more tags" plugin gives you a handful of other reasonably common bits. There is also, I believe in the core package, a rather fancy code highlighter plugin that gives line numbers and syntax highlighting.

OR you could write something that serves your needs better :)
