I mistakenly wrote in my post ealier today that I tried to reload the program. What I meant was that I tried to reinstall it and it told me that it was already installed. It never gave me a user name or password, just the above error messages and I can't find anything in the support to figure out what it means and what to do about it.
I got another error on line 74.
I deleted the blogs folder then transferred it again. I got to the part where I put in my database name and name and password and then tried to re-install it but I got that message saying that is already installed! If so...how do I get to it? The program never gave me a name or password and when I use the one for my database, it throws error messages at me. This should not be this hard. I tried to follow the directions for starting over but the conf/_basic_config.php would not let me change that zero to a 1. GAHHHHHH...ripping my hair out.

Nevermind. I have wasted way too much life trying to figure this out. It just won't go all the way through the installation without getting an error message in the "Installing sample files" section and I can't get a name and password if it doesn't install all the way. I have deleted the folder and all the evo files in the database. I guess I will just keep searching for one that works. Sad...I really wanted this one to work. =(

Oh, btw, here is the error message that I get on the installation screen:
Installing sample contents...

Most likely your host has an outdated version of PHP. Ask them to switch you to PHP 5 if possible or choose another hosting.
What version of PHP do you use?

Hi Xorri. Your PHP version is a good idea, along with what type of server you are on. Stuff like that helps a LOT. Anyway if you feel like it you can PM me your domain and some login credentials and I'll see if I can see why this installation just isn't working for you. No promises, but hey you never know...
By the way if the installer ever actually finished it most certainly did give you 'admin' as the login name and a randomly generated password. It puts them under all the lines of stuff it makes when it is creating all your database tables. So you COULD tell it you are 'admin' and that you lost your password, but that depends on if you gave it a valid email address during the installation. But anyway I think you're going around in circles and there is no need for that, so PM me your domain and login name and password (not the database ones - just enough to get to your cpanel and see what there is to see) if you want and I'll poke around a bit.

PHP Version 4.3.10
This is the version I think. And I will PM you Ed. Ty in advance. ;)

Oh one more thing, I can't switch to another hosting. I just bought this one for a year. =(

Ugg...one more thing, it never actually finished installing. It stopped at the above error message and never continued.

Does your hosting allow you to choose PHP version? What's the name of it?
12 edb May 14, 2009 14:24
The host is horrible :( I'm sorry Xorri is paid up for a year :'(
php v4.3.10 so technically should be good enough

Wow. There is no cPanel. I know cPanel is a product a host must purchase a license to provide, but I thought it was everywhere anyway. No way to actually see the contents of a database. Not even table names. OTOH the file manager provided is way better than the POS cPanel provides :)
Anyway with limited access there ain't much I can figure out from the outside. Aw crap I already closed the tab but phpinfo() showed ... wait a sec. Ah never mind. It's kinda a pain in the butt to find it because without javascript I can eventually get it to open in a real window, but you gotta have javascript enabled to do anything with it so once you enable it you get everything in popups.
Xorri I replied to your PM :) Did you recover your password? You can go to your admin area and tell it you lost your password. It'll mail you a new one. The thing is can you get into your admin side at all, meaning is it only the blog side that is failing?

I can view those files. The EVO files? Once you are in the control panel, you can click on the website, (craftcitycafe.com is where those files are)click on DATABASES the click on the database name "blogs" and then click on PHPMYADMIN and all those files are in there. You can open them up and change them, etc. I am not sure why you could not access them. I logged in just fine with the name and pw that I gave you. I will leave it as it is incase you want to try and go back in there. Thanks again,

I didn't see any place to pick a version, but to me it's time to talk to the host about upgrading the version of PHP you have there. Your host provides 4.3.1- which *should* be able to run b2evolution, but it is an obsolete version. Check out http://forums.b2evolution.net/viewtopic.php?p=68544#68544 for some info on exactly how obsolete your PHP version is...
And by the way I'm sorry but it might be time to decide this was good money thrown on a bad product. There is nothing wrong with your files or database that I can see (not that I'm all-knowing or anything like that), but it won't run. You might be able to access the admin side, but so what if the blog isn't visible to the world right? In fact I actually doubt you would be able to use the admin side because it will probably crash for the same reason your public side is crashing.
So anyway all your files and whatnot are correct. You can get your password to the admin area reset, but it won't help. So talk to the host about why they are running obsolete PHP and see if they will either upgrade the server you are on to PHPv5, or move you to a different server with current software. If not then I'm sorry but it might be money down the drain.

I messaged the host and they installed it for me!! I haven't logged in yet....half afraid too! (I kid) But I am going to ask them to install it on the other one too. I want to thank you all again for your helping this damsel in distress. I will be in touch =)
