[2.x] Adding HTML to my skin/template

My b2evolution Version: 2.x

I'm trying to figure out how to add some HTML (Adsense) to my side bar. I read where it says "just copy and paste" the script but that is a little vague for someone who is a noob like me. I tried it a couple times but saw no changes.

How would I do this and feel free to talk to me like a 3rd grader so I can understand it.

Yep. I can put an ad in my post but I may want to put it in the side bar. I have the HTML, I just don't know where to put it so it will show somewhere other than a post.

Ah, OK. I haven't actually used the adsense plugin so I guess there will either be a way to do it through the plugin itself - via adding an adsense widget to your sidebar or maybe you can just add the 'Free HTML' widget to your sidebar and copy the script into that?
