Kimberly,
Yes the "insert image" procedure is a bit different. We think it's better though :p
The rationale is that in v3 you link images to posts and b2evolution takes care of the <img> tag for you. Inserting html code into your posts feels clunky. It is still possible to use that old way of doing things but the new way allows b2evolution to automatically resize images so they fit the current skin (even if you change your skin later on) and also provides automatic "click to zoom", things like that.
The link cannot be saved to the database unless there is something to link to. Hence the need to save the post. But why would you want to change the status to "published" before finishing your post? Why don't you just want to hit "save" and then hit "publish" when you are really really done with your post and images.
Also if you have so many files that you can"t find new ones it means that you have many files in a single folder indeed. This is not good for your webserver performance whatsoever. Why don't you use folders? It's very easy to create new folder in the filemanager.
Does this make sense to you?

PS: due to popular demand, the "insert html code" after upload is already back in b2evolution v4.
Now, I guess we need someone to backport teh feature to bevolution v 3.3.3. Tblue is the master of backports... I suggest everyone interested ask him nicely :)

I have spent part of the day hacking the code. I had never hacked b2evolution because I loved the way it worked and had no need. Therefore, I had to first learn how b2evolution worked, what control files meant, and views, and such.
When I had an understanding, I went into the code and remove the "save & attachment" and then added back the old files way that I liked from the older version. I am setting up a new site for someone with no understanding of anything. It works just like I am use to and I am thinking of updating my 2.4.2 version to 3.3.2 with my hacks. I have been using b2evolution since 2007 and have been very happy with it. I just recently looked at other blog engines and they just don't compare.
The only thing I noticed is the "Add the code to your Post !" is not being displayed. I checked the code and the function is still implemented. Since I don't know enough about the workings of b2evolution, I am not sure where to go to have the "Add the code" displayed again.

Thanks for the update. I figured out which script and which code and have that function working now.
The file management in 2.4.2 is a lot better than what is in the new versions. However, I guess this is like a MicroCrap OS thing, you are forced into crap even if you don't want it.
What is the NO RESULTS box all about? I went ahead and tried out the new version file management thing, and YOU HAD BETTER BE CAREFUL about the save and edit thing as it can save out a blank blog post and ping the servers. Plus, with the new version, I don't get the html code at the top, I have to search down through the uploaded files to try and find the ones I want to insert. Imagine having a thousand photos to hunt through to try and find the one you just uploaded. The old way worked better!
If I could just make some changes, then the new version might be usable. For one, I want to remove the save part of adding an image to my blog post. In 2.4.2 I just wrote my blog and uploaded and inserted images where I wanted them WITHOUT having to save the NEW blog post first.
I want the html code back like in the old version.
And I want to get rid of that NO RESULTS box whatever it does, it isn't doing it.
Just tell me how to hack the code, or what code to hack. The reason for upgrading is to have the latest release so it has all the security holes that is known fixed, or as many as possible. That is why I upgraded. Perhaps this is a downgrade, as with Window's Vista.
If nothing else, I may say screw 3.3.1 and later releases and damn the support and just go with 2.4.2 for now and forever. Or perhaps move on away from b2evolution and see what else there is out there.
Not too happy.
