My b2evolution Version: Not Entered

I am basically tech support for a friend. She is currently running version 0.9 and is overwhelmed by spammer comments. I'm going to clean out the spam ASAP (ugh) and upgrade her to the latest and greatest.

Any tips, suggestions, problems, things to watch out for, etc? Any issues with updating the database that I need to know about in advance?
