Yesterday we started noticing our site slowing down and having numerous database not found errors. After some troubleshooting I figured out it was due to an extemely large evo_hitlog table in the database.

It seems with all of the referrer spam the hitlog table was getting huge. In fact the entire db size was 72 MB and the hitlogs table was 54MB of that. I purged the hitlogs table and all was fixed. I thought I would post for those who might be experiencing similar problems with their sites due to referrer spam explosion that has been going on. Although the database runs on a seperate server the size of the hitlog table seems to negatively impact the whole site and the db server.From now on I am going to purge the hitlog table daily until the referrer spam is brouht under control--I hope.
