I noticed that a user posted a comment on my blog. I went ahead & read his comment & posted a comment. However, the comment was part of the main blog item, and not of the user's comment.

is there a way to comment on a comment so that the user that commented gets alerted to comments posted on his original comment?
I hope this is not too confusing.

Thanks in advance,

Edgar,

Assuming you mean nested comments, ie:

Post
  comment on post
  comment on post
  comment on post
  comment on post
    comment on comment
  comment on post
  comment on post
    comment on comment
      comment on comment on comment

Then I'm afraid the answer is no ...... but, if that's not what you mean, then there's hope ;)

That's what I meant. Hopefully it will be in the next release.

I've seen the next release, and this isn't in there. Even most forum apps now do flat discussion threads by default rather than nested threads.

Although, on second thought, you could post that as a plugin request. It might not be that hard to do. It would require an extra column in the comment table, giving the commentID of the parent comment. Notifications would be harder, then you would have to get the skin to signify that comments are nested inside of each other. Ok, maybe it would be mess.
