Was wondering if I can upload the zip file directly to the server and unzip it there?

(Instead of unzipping locally and uploading via ftp)

Thanks...carl

That's a question for your hosting service. Each host gives different access. For example, I can't unzip files on my host, but they will do .tar.gz files.

The main reason I wondered was, when I installed Gallery2, they (the Gallery people) had a pre-install script that automatically downloaded the zip right to the server and unzipped it. It dramatically reduced the uploading time.

I think Gallery was something like 22 mb by FTP and took a very long time even on broadband.

The script reduced the whole install time to about 3 minutes.

believe it or not, you can unpack files from within cpanel's filemanager thingy.. I wouldnt use it, but still.

there is a LINUX version of zip and unzip, however few hosts install it, in my experience.

For what its worth, b2evo is about 2.1MB and my download, with broadband took a whopping 3 seconds or so

you need better broadband.

Oh I meant 22mb of unzipped files uploaded via FTP to the server took about 15 minutes. This is the photo Gallery2 (not b2).
