That is my default path...

i didn't have the option to change the install directory.
So back to my question, is there a way to change the location or create a redirect?
thanks!

Your install directory is based on the folder that you uploaded all the files to.
So, first off, go find /whatever path/conf/_config.php [_basic.config.php in 1.8] and save it to your hardrive.
Then upload a fresh copy of all the files (except the /install/ folder, you don't need those) to /the folder I really want/
After that crack open that config.php (or _basic.config.php) that you saved to your hardrive, and find a line that looks like
$baseurl = 'http://some_domain/whatever folder'; // this will end in a trailing slash in 1.8 ....... hmmm, that sounds like an old geezer with a bladder problem :|
and change it to match your shiny new blog url. Then upload that file to /the folder I really want/conf/ and all should be roses :D
If all is roses then you can delete all the files in /whatever folder/ ;)
