I'm trying to upgrade from 0.9.0.12 to the Milestone version.

So far, I unzipped the file, and copied each and every file within the 'blogs' folder to my root directory (http://fraynelson.com).

I changed the baseurl in _base_config.php accordingly, both trying 'http://fraynelson.com' and 'http://fraynelson.com/' (without and with the final slash.

I tried copying and not copying my old config.php.

In every case, when entering:

http://fraynelson.com/install/index.php

I get the blocking message: "Please, do not access this page directly"

WHAT IS WRONG? I never thought this upgrade had to be SO complicated.

Thanks in advance for your replies. I need this fixed URGENTLY! 8|

Sounds like you're using an old skin in a new version. Try using the custom skin that came with your upgraded version and see if that gets you going again. When that works out you'll want to check out the manual for upgrading skins to see what you need to do about upgrading your existing skin.

Dear EdB,

I replaced everything within my files, including of course the skins. By the time being I had revert to the 0.9.0.12 version to keep my blog up and running, and beacuse the rss's and podcasts I have based upon it.

What else could be? I'll give another try as soon as I a can.

Thanks again! :)

Okay that was a guess based on available info, but here's a scenario worth considering...

It is possible that your server has date/time info about files that is newer than the latest release AND that your FTP program only over-writes newer files. If that happens then you could end up not over-writing files that need to be upgraded, so the 'stock' upgrade procedure is to delete everything (from b2evo!) on your server and upload all the new stuff.

1.8.1 ("milestone") works, but since you have a problem there must be a problem that you need fixed.

Is it possible to simply delete all the files from your server and upload the newest version? Assuming you've run the installer (to upgrade your database) then the files will be no problem. None of your settings or info are stored in files, though it's important to not delete stuff that's in your media folder. Obviously b2evolution isn't zipped with your files in media!
