Manually upgrading from 5.0.9 to 5.1.2 doesn't work for me.
I unzip 5.1.2 into a new directory, copy conf/_basic_config.php, run the installer.
After a few seconds I get an error "You have schema version «11200», but we would need «11280»".
When I try to go back to 5.0.9 I get the error "You have schema version «11200», but we would need «11110»."
After restoring the database from backup 5.0.9 is fine again.
Any hints?

I guess, this is the same problem I have had. You need to use the installer more than one time. Every time it will put up the schema version to a higher level.
I need to use it 4 or 5 times, if I remember this correct.
I upgraded from 5.0.6 to 5.1.2.
