Hi mrpeeble, welcome to the forum. Could you clarify a bit? Your title says comments and the body of your question says "posts." Which one are you talking about? And what do you mean by archive? You want to remove a post from the front page? Normally posts just get bumped off of the front page as new ones come on. You can still get to them by clicking the Next Page link enough times, by going to the archive page for that month, by finding it in its category page, or by searching.
